Capital One Center’s #CommitmentToGreen encompasses our strategy to achieve the highest levels of sustainable design at our Tysons development and support regional environmental programs. For our latest #CommitmentToGreen project, we reimaged the top floor of our Center Two Parking Garage to invest in solar energy.
During the summer of 2023, we installed solar rooftop panels—and within a few weeks we have seen an improvement in our energy efficiency! Next time you view the skyline of our transforming development, keep a lookout for our solar panels on the roof of our Center Two garage. Curious to learn more about the environmental impact of these new solar panels? We have some fun facts for you!
Each year, this rooftop system will produce 530,000 kilowatts—equivalent to removing 80+ cars from the roads annually. Reduction of CO2 emissions is another goal, and this project will power annual energy equivalent to 42,300 gallons of gasoline, or the energy use of 50 homes annually! The amount of greenhouse gas emissions that will be avoided is equivalent to 16,000+ bags of waste recycled instead of landfilled and our carbon sequestration is equivalent to 450 acres of forests annually*. That’s big impact and we are proud to do our part!
