During the Summer of 2020, Capital One Center hosted twelve nights of free drive-in movies at the McLean Metro Lot in partnership with Second Story, a local youth homeless shelter who recently increased their emergency services by providing food, shelter and therapy for vulnerable community members impacted by COVID-19.
Over 5,000 attendees joined us for a safe and socially distanced night out -- which everyone craves even more so during the pandemic. The Capital One Center staff also found creative ways to add to the experience with antique cars displayed during the Grease feature night, dinosaur costumes for Jurassic Park, and an iconic red Ferrari for Ferris Bueller’s Day Off!
In addition to offering free movie nights for our community, this movie series raised $15,000 for Second Story.
During the finale feature of Footloose, Kevin Bacon shared a special message about Second Story's important work, with thanks to his Foundation, Six Degrees.Org. Watch Kevin Bacon's opening video on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn.
Stay tuned for our next pop-up programming at the McLean Metro Lot this spring: Pups & Pints!
